19 Karen was founded in 2008. It represents Australian and international artists of various styles and genres – from Urban and Street art, to Pop art, Expressionism, Contemporary Figurative and Abstract to Realism, Surrealism and Pop Surrealism and anything in between – all enmeshed into one big white cube space in a converted warehouse (700 square metres, the biggest art gallery on the Gold Coast) tucked away in an industrial precinct bearing the name and number of the street – 19 Karen!
It is centrally located within walking distance from Pacific Fair – the biggest shopping centre in the region. Their website is easily navigated and is updated on a daily basis, bringing you new artworks, news and information as it happens.
The Gallery is divided into six interconnected exhibition spaces. Each one differs in size, providing several individual alcoves for clients to meander through. A recent addition, the large carpeted and air conditioned stockroom, was purpose built to house the overflow of art, with both walls and floors adorned with numerous works, all organised into artists for ease of reference.
At the forefront of 19 Karen is to provide the viewer with a sensory experience immediately upon entering the space. One that is full of colour and contrast, texture and tactility, culture and community, and above all cutting edge beauty.
