Whitehaven Beach stretches over seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsunday group. It defines nature at its best, no surprise it often tops the best beaches list the world over.
The sand contains 98% silica that makes it extremely soft and a fantastic place to walk on barefoot, even on a hot day.
No matter which end of Whitehaven Beach you find yourself on there is a stunning lookout to enjoy.
At the northern end of Whitehaven visitors can explore the iconic Hill Inlet. For the best view, take the short stroll up to the lookout, to see the breathtaking view of swirling white sands and the turquoise waters melting together.
At the southern end of the beach take a short 1 km walk through Australian native bush to another stunning lookout with views to the sparkling waters of Chance Bay and the 7 km long stretch of the beach
Whitehaven Beach is accessible from the Whitsundays mainland town of Airlie Beach as well as the region’s island resorts. You can enjoy a day trip with one of the many experienced tour operators, or join an overnight sailing experience, or skipper your own boat. To top up the experience take a scenic flight and why not even land on the beach on a helicopter or seaplane.
